Yoke messenger is a cross-platform mobile messenger that works as long as you have internet connection. Sent and received messages use the same internet data plan as your device so there is no extra cost to the user.
Yoke messenger does not automatically add contacts from your phonebook to your list of friends. You have to invite friends yourself, or be invited by them.
By clicking the + button in the friends screen, you can invite contacts to become your friends. You have the option to invite all Yoke messenger users in one simple click, or one by one. Contacts in your phone book, who have installed Yoke messenger will have a little green Yoke icon next to their name and will be sent a message from within the app at no extra cost . Contacts that you wish to invite, who have not downloaded Yoke app will be sent an SMS to install the app.
You can also choose to send and accept invitations automatically by switching the option to “ON” from Yoke settings screen.
No, Yoke messenger allows you to chat only with the contacts you’ve accepted to become your friends. This ensures that both parties want to chat. Contacts in your phone book who have downloaded Yoke messenger, but are not on your friends list, are not able to see your profile picture nor your status. They only see your last seen time, provided you have not chosen to hide it.
You can start chatting by simply tapping on a friend’s name from the friends tab.
Go to the friends tab and tap edit (top left side of the screen) this will bring up a red delete button on the left side, near every friends profile picture which you can tap and confirm the removal of that friend.
Yoke messenger allows you to individualize the settings of each friend. You can access these settings by tapping the blue arrow next to a friend’s name and customize profile picture, sounds and push notifications for that specific friend.
Yoke messenger’s activity tab keeps you updated on your friends’ status updates. A badge on top of the activity tab means that one or more of your friends has changed their status or their profile picture.
Badges also appear when a contact in your phonebook has installed Yoke messenger.
When you send a message, the time next to the message sent is blue: meaning your message has been sent.
Once your message has been delivered (i.e: the recipient of the message has opened Yoke app, or the app is still running in the background) the color will change to orange.
When the time is in green that means your message has been read. By tapping on the info button next to the time (!) a pop up screen will appear, as shown in the pic below.
You can send a picture or share your location simply by tapping on the yellow upwards facing arrow on the bottom left side of your individual chat screen.
Tap on the received picture and the picture will zoom. Press and hold your finger on the zoomed picture and a pop up screen will appear with the option to save it to the photo library.
From the Chats tab users can easily create a group chat.
Click on the group icon in the middle of the chat’s screen and then press the + button, and add as many friends as you like. After that, press done (Top right of the screen)
You can then choose a title for the group chat and edit the list of participants. To start the group chat simply press Start.
You can access the info of that group chat by clicking on any of your existing group chats and then clicking on the name of that chat in the top middle of your group chat screen.
Open the group chat you wish to remove yourself from, and then tap on the title of that group chat (top middle of the screen). This will take you to the info of that group chat. Tap on leave group chat and then confirm this action.
Setting a global title to your group chat means that the name or title you chose will be shown to all participants of that group chat.
Yes, from the chat’s screen. Click on the microphone icon and then press +. Add the friends you wish to send a broadcast message to and then press chat (top right). This action will take you to a screen similar to the group chat screen where you can set a title for the broadcast message. Make sure to click broadcast message ON.
Open the chat screen where you want to edit or delete a message that you already sent.
Tap on edit (top right of the screen).
A pencil and paper icon will appear next to every message you have sent. Select the chat you want to edit or delete by tapping on the pencil and paper icon next to that chat.
You can delete the message by erasing the text and pressing CHANGE. You can edit the text and then press CHANGE the same way.
You can delete your account by going to the settings screen and scrolling to the bottom and tapping on delete account.
If you changed your phone number you will first need to delete your existing Yoke account and then re register using your new number in order to update Yoke messenger.
Yes, from Yoke settings screen, you can click on push notifications and chose to show full message preview, only sender’s name, only update badge or turn push notifications off entirely.
P.S: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOKE NOTIFICATIONS ON IN YOUR iPHONE MAIN SETTINGS MENU.
The last seen time for iPhone users indicates when that user last opened Yoke app. However for blackberry and android users, last seen time indicates the state of their device connection.
You can hide your “last seen time” by purchasing the upgrade from the upgrades tab on Yoke screen and tapping “hide mode” ON from your settings screen. Users who have purchased “Hide mode” can chose to turn it ON or OFF whenever they like.
You can protect access from others to Yoke app by tapping on “Set password” in Yoke settings screen.
We ask for your phone number because this is how we route messages between you and your friends. However we do not record any name associated with that phone number. Yoke values the privacy of each and every one of its users and has never and will never sell your personal information to anyone.
All messages and pictures sent via Yoke messenger are encrypted and message content is deleted from Yoke servers as soon as message delivery is confirmed.
